::: Welcome to www.trippylight.com Mini Index, a site dedicated to vintage boiler lamps. ::: www.trippylight.com is created by Anthony Voz | Special thanks to Anne for kindly donating so many beautiful photos of her beautiful boiler collection. I would like to thank Alain-Noêl Dureysseit for very kindly donating beautiful images to our historical gallery. I would also like to thank Jonas Clark-Elliott for introducing me to these lamps and his immense knowledge regarding these wonderful lights.

www.trippylight.com is dedicated to vintage boiler lamps that were notably (but not only) manufactured in France in the vintage years. There are countless variations of these unique liquid lamps, that are normally fashioned from glass. These intriguing lights work on light bulbs to create stunning effects within, using interesting liquids that react to the heat from the light bulb. Very little is actually known about these mysterious intriguing lamps however one can see a mini gallery of vintage boiler lamps and styles below. Known manufacturers of these wonderful lights include F. Vaudan Paris, S. Vera of Clermont-Ferrand and Creations Artisanales M.U.C Paris.

There are multiple types of boiler lamps: Boilers, Boilers featuring Glitter, Fountain Styled Boilers, Bubblers, Lava Bubblers & Lava Fountains. There are also non-electric versions which are powered by hand. Most boilers are entire glass pieces manufactured delicately with scientific skill to create these stunning pieces, filled and then sealed at the top.

Most feature the bulbs which fit into the glass piece, however some feature specifically manufactured bases like lava lamps featuring light fittings. Some feature more exotic bases which give the lamp stability and character. Boilers often feature intricate glass designs such as spirals or indentations to the glass to fashion the liquid to move in a certain manner, however some have been seen which are purely cylindrical.

Boiler lamps were sold in France and it safe to assume that they were sold over Europe. Boiler lamps have been known to be sold in the United Kingdom and even manufactured in Yorkshire. We would love to hear from anyone who collects these lamps or knows anything more about them. - hippielight@googlemail.com

Below: www.trippylight.com | Vintage Lava Bubblers | They Bubble and they are fun.

Below one can see a two different coloured examples of a very popular Lava Bubbler lamp design seen in France. The top of this design and the base are covered in silver foil which adds to the beauty of these lamps. Lava Bubbler lamps feature a colourful liquid within and are often seen in the design below which features indents to the glass to create a more interesting passage for the liquids within, to float around. When the lamp is heated up the lamp comes to life as colourful bubbles rise to the top, break down and float back down as little drops. The indents seen in the models below enhance and help the bubbles to bounce within the lamp. These lamps create a unique kinetic lighting effect within and I love the colours of these wonderful lamps.

Below one can see a great example of a vintage boiler lamp. This design features a wonderful flared base. When switched on the liquid which is present in the lamp gets hotter, raises in volume and then starts to come alive in the top part of the lamp creating a really eye catching effect within. This particular design like many boilers are entirely manufactured from glass and features the light fitting that sits within the unit. This design features a spindle like form and a flared base which gives the lamp its stability.

Below one can see a great example of a vintage Lava Bubbler lamp. When this lamp is switched on, it creates a beautiful effect within and features red liquid inside this amazing design. I particularly love the design of this piece. As with many designs this lamp features an interesting elegant shape and design which helps fashion the liquids within to create a more interesting effect. This example is a fashioned from glass entirely and features metal foil placed on the base.

Below: www.trippylight.com | Vintage Pink Boiler Lamp with Path Design

Below one can see a great example of a vintage boiler lamp featuring pink liquids inside. The images below show the Boiler when it is switched on and show the effect of the lamp bubbling in the top glass bubble. When the lamp is switched on the liquids rise to the top of the lamp and produce a bubbling boiling effect that can be seen in the top part of the lamp. As with many boiler designs, this design features an intricate glass design for the liquid to pass within. Once again this design is entirely glass manufactured with the light fitting integrated into the base of the lamp. Like most boilers the base features a hole to allow the cable to pass.

Below: www.trippylight.com | Selection of Vintage Boiler Lamps | Which one is your favourite?

Below one can see a great selection of vintage boiler lamps. The first design is a Lava Bubbler featuring deep blue liquid within. When the lamp is switched on bubbles of coloured liquid will rise to the top and fall back down. The second design from the left was created by Creations Artisanales M.U.C Paris as per the oval sticker on the base. The inside of the lamp features an intricate glass tube where the liquid within rises from. The third design from the left features an interesting rough rock looking base and the the forth design features yet another different design featuring red liquids within and a squared cubic styled base. The third and forth designs feature dedicated light fitting bases which the glass tubes are placed upon, unlike the first and second designs which are all glass and feature the light fittings integrated within.

Below: www.trippylight.com | Beautiful Boiler with Rock Styled Base | Thank you to Anne for the images below.

Below one can see a beautiful boiler design, that features a tapered tube design that forms a bubble at the top of the lamp. When the lamp is switched on, the liquids within rise and then create a bubbling effect in the top bubble of the lamp. This particular design is our favourite boiler design and it features a really interesting base that resembles a rock with its rough texture. I particularly love this design. Thank you to Anne for the wonderful images below.

Below: www.trippylight.com | Orange Boiler Lamp with Flared Base.

Below one can see a classic Boiler lamp. This particular lamp features a metal base, which houses the light fitting and light bulb. The flared base not only provides elegance to the design but also gives the design stability. This particular lamp features an intricate coil and a bubble at the top. When the lamp is switched on, liquid rises through the glass structure to the top, where it begins to bubble in the top of the lamp. This particular lamp was originally purchased in the 1970s in the United Kingdom.

Below: www.trippylight.com | Dual Fountain Boiler Lamp | Twice the Fun

Below one can see a vintage dual Fountain Boiler lamp. These particular lamps are similar to ordinary Lava Bubbler lamps but the liquid escapes in a fountain style via jets or a nozzle at the top. This particular design features a metal tubular tripod (three-legged) base with a complicated glass structure on the top. This design features two bubbles at the top which see the liquid escaping into.

Below one can see vintage electric Boilers. The shorter model features purple pink liquid which rises through the swirl in the middle portion of the lamp and then bubbles at the top. The light bulb simply slots into the glass body of the lamp and features a silver ribbon to conceal the light from the light bulb. This model is also photographed next to a taller orange model.
