::: Welcome to www.trippylight.com Mini Index, a site dedicated to vintage boiler lamps. ::: www.trippylight.com is created by Anthony Voz | Special thanks to Anne for kindly donating so many beautiful photos of her beautiful boiler collection. I would like to thank Alain-Noêl Dureysseit for very kindly donating beautiful images to our historical gallery. I would also like to thank Jonas Clark-Elliott for introducing me to these lamps and his immense knowledge regarding these wonderful lights.

www.trippylight.com is dedicated to vintage boiler lamps that were notably (but not only) manufactured in France in the vintage years. There are countless variations of these unique liquid lamps, that are normally fashioned from glass. These intriguing lights work on light bulbs to create stunning effects within, using interesting liquids that react to the heat from the light bulb. Very little is actually known about these mysterious intriguing lamps however one can see a mini gallery of vintage boiler lamps and styles below. Known manufacturers of these wonderful lights include F. Vaudan Paris, S. Vera of Clermont-Ferrand and Creations Artisanales M.U.C Paris.

There are multiple types of boiler lamps: Boilers, Boilers featuring Glitter, Fountain Styled Boilers, Bubblers, Lava Bubblers & Lava Fountains. There are also non-electric versions which are powered by hand. Most boilers are entire glass pieces manufactured delicately with scientific skill to create these stunning pieces, filled and then sealed at the top.

Most feature the bulbs which fit into the glass piece, however some feature specifically manufactured bases like lava lamps featuring light fittings. Some feature more exotic bases which give the lamp stability and character. Boilers often feature intricate glass designs such as spirals or indentations to the glass to fashion the liquid to move in a certain manner, however some have been seen which are purely cylindrical.

Boiler lamps were sold in France and it safe to assume that they were sold over Europe. Boiler lamps have been known to be sold in the United Kingdom and even manufactured in Yorkshire. We would love to hear from anyone who collects these lamps or knows anything more about them. - hippielight@googlemail.com

Below: www.trippylight.com | An Orange Swirl Dream.

Some of our favourite boiler lamp designs are actually the simplest. This wonderful design features a tubular design with a coil of swirls and a bubble on the top. When switched on, the brightly coloured orange liquid rises up making its way through the glass coil and up into the glass bubble where it then cools down, and then repeats the process endlessly. This design is also one of the more popular designs. Enjoy the images below.

Many boiler lamp designs are actually very similar or modified in a smaller way. The lamp below features beautiful bright orange liquid which when heated makes its way through the middle swirls and up into into the top smaller bubble and then boils at the top. This particular design has a side tube located in the middle of the design. Enjoy the images below.

The next design below features a white block base, with a chrome trim around the center which supports the glass tube and houses the light source within. This design features glass beads which appear to be two tone blue in colour with orange surrounding liquid. At the top of the design there is a glass swan, when illuminated the lamp becoming kinetic with liquid and glass beads moving and the swan appears to be floating within, however it is staticly held in the middle by a supporting central glass tube. We call this design floating in a pond. This lamp is classified as a Fountain with beads. Enjoy the images below.

One of the more popular boiler lamp designs can be seen below which reflect the kinetic and fun colours of its time. This simple design features a similar design to "An Orange Swirl Dream" but replaces the coil with a glass wave which contains three bubbles. When powered the liquid heats and then makes its way up the glass into the top bubble where it gives the effect of boiling or moving in a kinetic fashion. This design is less fragile than the glass design with a tightly wound coil which made it easier to manufacture and sell. A similar design has also been seen in turquoise. Below: www.trippylight.com | The Spindle.

We call the design below: 'The Spindle' due to the fact that it looks like a staircase spindle with its gorgeous detailed waves. This simple design which has been seen in many different colours features a single glass enclosure with colourful liquid which simply makes its way through the design and boils at the top. As so oftenly seen with boiler lamps, these lamps feature a stylish metallic reflective trim on the base, hiding the glare of the light bulb from the end user. Enjoy the images below which are the kind courtesy of: www.110volts.net A beautiful vintage store based in Montpellier, France.

Below: www.trippylight.com | Pink Flare.

The design below is a beautiful design that is extremely elegant with a beautiful flared look. This design features a central tube that feeds from the reservoir or pool of liquid at the bottom of the design. When heated the liquid rises and boils in the main top bubble of the lamp. This design still has the sticker that states made by hand in French, 'FAIT MAIN'. Like all these wonderful lamps, these lamps were made by hand. Enjoy the images below.

This cute small glitter lamp by M.U.C Paris caught our eye. Unlike other glitter lamps of the time and those which can be seen at www.trippyglitters.com, this fast moving glitter lamp is completely sealed just like a boiler lamp. We love the shred pieces of glitter. M.U.C Paris also created glitter lamps which contain boilers within which can be seen below. M.U.C also produced other glass items such as wine thermometers which are less funky. Images of the M.U.C Paris thermometer are the kind courtesy of: MEGALOTS Store in Mouleydier, France. Enjoy the images below.

Below: www.trippylight.com | M.U.C Paris Boiler in Glitter Lamp.

This dual boiler and glitter lamp by M.U.C Paris caught our eye as it contains the charm of a boiler lamp surrounded by a separate glass portion which contains glitter and liquid. When heated the boiler starts working by raising the temperature and the liquid raises inside the swirls making its way to the top and then falling back down again. Whilst this is happening, glitter is surrounding the boiler which ensures that there is always something to see. Enjoy the images below.

Below: www.trippylight.com | A Classical Fountain in a Lamp.

The design below is one of the more classical kitsch designs that you can see with boilers but excellent craftsmanship. This design features a central liquid tube that has three swans located within the top bubble of the lamp. When heated the liquid pours out from the three swans too. This design has a rather classical feel to it and reminds us of a classical fountain. Enjoy the images below.

Below: www.trippylight.com | Valentine's Lamp.

The boiler design below which we call Valentine's lamp features a distinctive heart shaped top which was the inspiration for the name combined with a red liquid within. This simple yet elegant design features liquid which moves within the structure of the lamp passing through the ripples within till it reaches the top where the liquid boils. We think this design is so smart with its chrome trim on the base which conceals the light source within. Enjoy the images below.
